New Horizons

This body of work explores spiritual encounters at the intersection between the unseen and seen realms - the invisible breaking into the visible, and eternity manifesting in time. My semi-abstracted landscapes are an emotional response to such encounters, emphasizing and reducing the picture plane to "sky" and "earth", as the stage on which these encounters play out. Light plays a pivotal role in my work as a metaphor for revelation, enlivening my high contrast colour palette. Underpinning it all is my deep connection to the land and sea of Aotearoa New Zealand.

I identify with past and contemporary painters responding to Biblical narratives of encounters with the Divine.

The painting titles were inspired by the medieval poem The Phoenix.
